Korea’s first pill has been approved for sale in South Korea – and one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world has just released a generic version of Viagra – just three days before it is expected to hit the market.

Korea’s erectile dysfunction drug — which is sold by a group of private-sector firms called the People’s Pharmacy Group and the Korea Surgittaboe (PSS) Group — has been approved for sale in the country for a year, after the government confirmed that it was being sold without a prescription.
Korea’s main erectile dysfunction drug, Addyi, is approved for sale in the country for two years. The generic drug is expected to hit the market in April 2018.
South Korea has been plagued by the worst cases of erectile dysfunction in the country’s past, with the first-ever pill of Viagra approved in 2017.
South Korea’s sex-enhancing drug maker Boehringer Ingelheim said it is working on a generic version for Addyi.
“Our plans for the generic version of Addyi are based on our existing product and will be generic with the approval of our partner,” Boehringer Ingelheim president Kim Young-Inong told South Korea’s Daily News.
The South Korean pharmaceutical company said in a statement, “We are very happy with the product and will continue to support the company,” adding, “Our focus on responsible development, product quality, and product integrity continues to be our core focus.”
The generic version of Viagra comes with a warning, which means it could have a serious impact on the way patients are treated with the drug.
